Do you know who has access to your data?
Are you able to easily analyze NTFS permissions of your data?
Do you know the effective NTFS permissions owner of your data?
Do you know what effective NTFS permissions a specific user has on a folder and its hierarchy?
Modern operating systems enable employees to access data and documents in a variety of ways, no matter where they are.
But do you know who can access a specific folder or Windows share?
Not having a clear understanding about the people who can access your sensitive data may give you uneasy sleep at night.
For this reason, we have developed FolderSecurityViewer.
Our tool can analyze NTFS permissions of specific folders to give you an overview of the following security settings:
Active Directory users and groups that can access your data
Detailed NTFS permissions of the current folder
Differences in NTFS permissions between the current folder and its lower folder hierarchy
After analyzing the NTFS permissions you will get a nice formatted NTFS permissions report in Microsoft Excel or HTML.
FolderSecurityViewer is an NTFS Permissions Reporter that helps you to analyze your Windows Folders or Shares and report all NTFS permissions owner. This gives you visibility into the effective permissions and access rights for your data.
To easily see what effective NTFS permissions a specific user has and why – rights assignment made for a group or direct assignment.
Verifying user permissions for specific folders can be done in a short time. There is no need to hassle with any nested Active Directory security groups or time-consuming manual research for all the Active Directory groups to find the rights assignment of a specific folder.
Our NTFS Permissions Reporter does traverse nested Active Directory groups during analyzing effective NTFS permissions owner. It will also examine all members of type group and recursively figure out what users or groups exists there.
In case you have special groups for Operators or Backup users and you want to exclude those users from your NTFS permissions report, you can add those groups to the Exluded Groups section in the configuration. The Active Directory Browser helps you find the groups you’re looking for. During the scan the FolderSecurityViewer will skip all excluded groups to keep your NTFS permissions report clean.
If you need to analyze NTFS permissions of a folder with many subfolders, and you’re not interested in getting the NTFS permissions of them, you can specify a custom scan level to limit the depth of the analysis.
In case you want additional properties of Active Directory users in your NTFS permissions report, you can add them to your NTFS permissions report. For instance, you can add the email adresses of Active Directory user accounts in report by adding the property name “mail” and a descriptive column name such as “Email” to the Active Directory Properties configuration.
Every report can be exported. We’re offering exporting them to Microsoft Excel (xlsx), to HTML or to CSV.
You can save your NTFS Permissions Reports to local built-in database or to a MS SQL Server. The content of the database tables can be encrypted optionally. These saved reports can be compared against other saved reports and the differences will be shown: what permissions has been added, what permissions has been modified, and what permissions has been removed. You can even sort your report based on these criterias.
If you want to automate your NTFS permissions reporting, you can use our Command-Line Interface (CLI). With the help of this tool you can create all types of reports and exporting them either to Excel, HTML, CSV or into your database. This can be used by a Windows Scheduler so your daily or weekly reports will be created automatically.
